Donna Mahr became a single mother when she went to China and adopted Ashley as an infant. Within the next year she met Bob Flagg and invited him to her daughters' christening. As their relationship evolved so did Ashley's names for Bob. First he was Bob, then My Prince, then My Handsome Prince, then Daddy Bob and finally just Dad.

Four years later, Ashley would have an important role in their wedding.

When Ashley processed down the aisle she stopped on cue, turned and waited for her mother. Donna was beaming as she met and took her daughters hand. Together they walked down to meet Bob, the man Donna would marry and the man who would adopt Ashley.

During the religious ceremony, as her parents vowed to love, care, support and respect her Ashley was presented an adult sized ring on a golden chain as a symbol of this promise.
